Retirement Income Planning in Sacramento
Before we suggest any policy, we figure out how much money you will actually have each month after you stop working, and how much you will need. Once the real gap is on paper, picking the right coverage gets a lot simpler.

What Retirement Income Planning Means Here
Most people know roughly what they have saved. Fewer know what that turns into as a monthly check, or what happens to it if a spouse dies first. That is the work. We line up your Social Security estimate, any pension, your savings and your monthly bills, then look at where the shortfall sits and how long it lasts.
Sometimes the answer is an annuity that pays a set amount for life. Sometimes it is cash value in a whole life or universal life policy you already own. Sometimes it is nothing new at all, just a better choice on a pension election form. We tell you which one, and why.
If you are retiring from a state or county job with a pension, the survivor option you pick can matter more than any product we sell. We walk through that choice with you first.
What We Go Over With You
- A month-by-month income picture
- We put your expected income next to your real monthly costs. You see the gap in dollars, not a vague score.
- Pension survivor options
- Taking a higher single-life payout and using life insurance to protect your spouse can work. It can also backfire. We run both sides so you can compare.
- A review of policies you already own
- Old whole life or universal life policies often have cash value people forget about. We check what yours can do before suggesting anything new.
- Annuity options, explained plainly
- If a guaranteed monthly payment fits your gap, we show how the contract works, what it costs to get out early, and what your beneficiary receives.
- Beneficiary check
- We make sure the names on every policy and account still match what you want. Outdated beneficiaries are one of the most common problems we find.
Signs It Is Time to Sit Down and Plan
Retirement is five years out or less
This is when choices start to lock in. Pension elections and Social Security timing are hard to undo later.
You are not sure what your monthly check will be
If you know your account balance but not your monthly number, that is the first thing to fix.
One spouse would lose income if the other died
Social Security drops to one check. Some pensions stop or shrink. Your spouse may need coverage to fill that hole.
You own a policy you have not looked at in years
It may be worth more than you think. Or it may be close to lapsing, which you want to know now.
Someone is pushing a product before asking questions
If you were handed a recommendation before anyone looked at your numbers, a second look is a good idea.
How a Planning Visit Goes
- 1
A short phone call
You tell us your rough timeline and what worries you most. We tell you which papers to have handy.
- 2
We meet where it suits you
We can sit down at your place of business or another spot that works. Bring your Social Security estimate, pension statements, any policy paperwork and a rough list of monthly bills.
- 3
We find the real gap
We add it all up and show you how much income is missing, starting when, and for how long. Nothing gets recommended until this part is done.
- 4
Options in writing
You get a short written summary of two or three options, what each costs and what each one leaves uncovered. Take it with you, show your family, ask questions.
- 5
Paperwork if you go ahead
If you choose a policy, we handle the application and check in when it is issued to confirm the beneficiaries and payments are right.

What Moves the Cost
The planning conversation itself does not lock you into anything. What you pay depends on whether you buy a policy or annuity, and which one. These are the things that change the numbers most.
- Your age and health
- Life insurance costs more the older you are and depends on your health history. Annuity payouts usually go up with age.
- Size of the income gap
- A small shortfall for a few years costs far less to cover than a large one for life.
- Guarantees you want
- Lifetime guaranteed income or a guaranteed amount for a spouse costs more than options that can change.
- What you already own
- Existing cash value or a paid-up policy can cover part of the gap, which lowers what you need to add.
Retirement Income Planning Questions
Something not covered here? (916) 347-3948
Do I have to buy something to get a plan?
No. We go over your numbers either way. Sometimes the right move is a pension election or a beneficiary change, and that costs you nothing.
Are you giving investment advice?
No. We work with life insurance and annuities. We look at your other income so the insurance side fits, but we do not manage stocks or funds.
Should I take the single-life pension and buy life insurance instead?
It depends on your age, health and how much your spouse would need. For some people it saves money. For others, health or cost makes the survivor option the better deal. We run both so you can see the difference.
What if I already have whole life or universal life coverage?
Bring it. We check the cash value, the loans against it and whether it is on track to stay in force. Many people find an old policy can cover part of their gap.
Can you help if I am in Carmichael or West Sacramento?
Sure. People come to us from all over the Sacramento area, Carmichael and Arden-Arcade to West Sacramento and Rio Linda. The planning steps do not change with your zip code or town. We can sit down at your place of business or another spot that is easy for you.
Know Your Number Before You Retire
A short call is enough to see what papers you need and when to sit down. We start with your real gap, not a product.
