ServicesFinal Expense Insurance

Final Expense Insurance in Sacramento

Final expense insurance is a small policy that covers a funeral, burial or cremation, and the last bills. We start by adding up what those costs will actually be for you. Then we find coverage that fits, with premiums that stay the same.

What Final Expense Coverage Does

This is a form of whole life insurance with a smaller face amount. It does not expire, the premium does not go up, and the coverage does not shrink as you age. Most policies ask a short list of health questions instead of a medical exam.

When you pass, the money goes to your beneficiary. They can use it for the funeral home, a headstone, a final hospital bill, a credit card balance or anything else. Nobody tells them how to spend it.

We do not guess at a number. We look at what you want done, what you already have set aside and what debts would be left. Then we size the policy to the gap. Too little leaves your family paying the rest. Too much means you pay premiums you did not need to pay.

What You Get When You Work With Us

A cost worksheet first

We walk through burial or cremation, the service, the plot or niche, and any medical bills or debts. You see the total before we talk about any policy.

A check on what you already have

Many clients have an old work policy, a small savings account or a prepaid funeral plan. We count those so you are not buying coverage twice.

Matching your health to the right policy

Your answers to the health questions decide which type of policy you qualify for. We go over them honestly up front so the application is not declined or delayed later.

Side-by-side options from several carriers

Two companies can charge different amounts for the very same coverage. We lay the choices next to each other and explain each one in plain words.

Help naming your beneficiary

We explain how to name a primary and a backup beneficiary, and why it matters to keep that current.

Signs It Is Time to Look at Final Expense Coverage

  • Your old policy ended

A term life policy you bought years ago may have run out. If you still want something in place, final expense coverage lasts for life.

  • You do not want your kids paying

If your family would have to split the funeral bill or put it on a card, a small policy takes that off them.

  • Your health makes big policies hard to get

Many final expense plans use simple yes-or-no health questions. Some accept nearly everyone, with a waiting period before the full amount pays.

  • You are on a fixed income

A premium that never changes is easier to budget around than one that rises at renewal.

  • Nothing is written down

If no one knows what you want or how it will be paid for, now is a good time to settle both.

How It Works, Step by Step

  1. 1

    A call with us

When you call, we talk about your age, your overall health and which costs you want covered. These calls are usually brief and easygoing.

  2. 2

    Working out the true amount

We total the costs you expect and take away what you already have set aside. What remains is the coverage amount worth buying.

  3. 3

    Looking at your choices

You see the policies you qualify for, the monthly price of each and whether any comes with a waiting period. Choose one, or take some time to decide.

  4. 4

    Applying and receiving your policy

We help you answer the application truthfully and completely. When the carrier approves it, the policy is sent to you and we review it together. If you are 60 or older, California law gives you 30 days from delivery to look it over, and you can cancel for a refund if it is not right for you.

What Sets Your Premium

Final expense premiums are lower than most life insurance because the coverage amount is smaller. Your monthly cost is locked in when the policy starts. A few things decide where it lands.

Your age at the start
Each year you wait nudges the rate up. Whatever age you are when the policy begins sets your monthly premium for as long as you keep it.
Your health answers
Clean answers can qualify you for a policy with full coverage from day one. Serious conditions may mean a guaranteed acceptance plan, which costs more and often has a waiting period.
The coverage amount
This is why we add up your costs first. Buying the amount you need, not a round number, keeps the premium where it should be.
Tobacco use
Smokers pay more with nearly every carrier. Some count other nicotine products the same way.

Final Expense Questions We Hear

Something not covered here? (916) 347-3948

Is there a medical exam?

Typically no. Most final expense policies use a list of health questions and may look at your prescription history. How you answer determines which policy is available to you.

How does a waiting period work?

With many guaranteed acceptance policies, a death from illness in the first two years pays back only the premiums, sometimes with interest. From then on, the full amount is paid. An accidental death usually pays in full from the start. We flag any waiting period on a policy before you apply.

How does this compare to a prepaid funeral plan?

A prepaid plan ties you to one funeral home and a fixed set of services. A final expense policy pays the person you choose directly, and they can use it at any funeral home or for other bills. Some people carry both, so we look at what you already have.

Does the premium rise as I age?

No. With a final expense whole life policy, the premium is fixed at the start and never changes. The coverage amount holds steady as well.

How long until my beneficiary receives the money?

After the carrier gets the claim and a death certificate, the money is usually sent within a few weeks. The timing varies by company and by whether the policy is still within its contestable period.
